KOHAR Music School began life over 20 years ago ensuring the musical development of our students from an early age takes place within a caring and sensitive framework since then. Individual expert tuition from the most dedicating teachers in the land paves the path for our students to acquire high-quality education and secures positions in the most reputable conservatories, orchestras in Armenia.
As a result, student-centered teaching, highly professional staff, some of our alumni end up working in famous orchestras and choirs, studying at most reputable musical institutions in Armenia and abroad.

In 1988 Spitak earthquake destroyed homes and lives of many citizens of Gyumri, Armenia. The damage from the earthquake forced families out of their homes into streets leaving them desperate, emotionally weak and spiritually broken. In1997, in response to the tragedy, an Armenian family in Lebanon, the Khatchadourian; Mrs. Kohar, her sons Harout, Shahe and Nar, decided to provide assistance to their fellow citizens in Gyumri by establishing the KOHAR complex which would create career opportunities, preserve cultural heritage, and cure the victims' less visible emotional wounds.
KOHAR Music School, KOHAR Symphony Orchestra and Choir, KOHAR Dance Group came together to form KOHAR Complex as one of the most popular institutions for the musical education of its kind.
In 1999 KOHAR Benevolent Cultural NGO was established and in September of 1999 KOHAR Music School started to fully operate. The teaching staff of the music school is comprised of 18 musicians as well as more than 100 students who are currently training in the school.
Tuition at KOHAR Music School is free of charge. Moreover, necessary musical instruments are available at no cost for the whole duration of students’ tuition, thus giving a chance to lots of talented children to receive a basic musical education. The full program of KOHAR Music School is completed in 7 years.
Teaching, training and relevant program development is being constantly supervised by more experienced staff and specialists of KOHAR Music School.
This is one of the biggest departments of KOHAR Music School. Due to the individual classes held by the school teachers, students have an opportunity to master and assimilate the piano technique.
In addition to the individual courses, the most prominent students are given the opportunity to perform with piano duets, as well as with other musical instruments and singers.
The string department of the KOHAR Music School includes individual classes of violin, cello, harp, and guitar. Our specialized teaching staff takes into consideration each student ability and gives an individual approach with an appropriate special program. The students of the string department also perform with various musical instruments, with ensemble performances.
KOHAR Music School has personalized training of flute, hobo, clarinet, and trumpet. In addition to weekly individual classes, the students also perform with various ensemble performances.
In this department are holding individual classes of kanone, pipe, and duduk. With the goal of educating the students in a purely national, traditional spirit, the teaching staff of KOHAR music school gives importance to the most refined Armenian musical works.
This department gives an opportunity to discover and use your singing potential and voice tone. The students of the vocal department are performing in the children’s choir as well as in different ensembles.
The teachers of KOHAR Music School with their modern methods will make the theory of the music and harmony accessible to the students. Solfeggio classes will help to develop the students musical and harmonic listening and a sense of rhythm.

KOHAR Music School has hosted performers of Komitas String Quartet, Gohar Gasparyan, Tigran Levonyan, Melik Mavisakalyan, Robert Amirkhanyan, and other famous performers and musicians. During the event, our students had the chance to perform for them and receive valuable advice and praise for their good work and willingness to perform.
In May 2016, KOHAR Music School held an event with the members of Armenian Composers’ Union and lots of talented students from different departments of KOHAR Music School and other Music Schools in Gyumri played the concert.

The students played and sang musical compositions by Aram Satyan, Areg Lusinyan, Stepan Shaqatyan, Martin Vardazaryan.
She graduated from Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri in solfeggio frequencies as well as from the Music department of State Pedagogical University after Mikael Nalbandyan in Music Theory.
Currently, she teaches solfeggio in KOHAR Music School. She is also the librarian of KOHAR Library.
She graduated from the strings department of the Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri as well as the same department of Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan in violin.
She has taught at Gyumri’s Music Schools N4 and N7, as well as at “Improrhythm” college.
Currently, she is working at Komitas State Conservatory branch in Gyumri, music school N5 after Sheram and at KOHAR Music School as a teacher of Violin.
She has earned many awards, diploma, and letters of acknowledgment.
He graduated from Music Institute after Romanos Meliqyan, department of strings as well as Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, department of strings specializing in cello. He worked in as a cello player. He also taught cello at Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri as well as in the Art School after Jean and Albert Boghosyan and sons. Currently, he teaches cello at KOHAR Music School and he is a cello player at KOHAR Symphony Orchestra and Choir.
He graduated from the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, Department of radio technology. Later on, he continued his education and graduated from Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, department of strings, in guitar. He worked as a guitar teacher at Musical School N 6 in Gyumri as well as at A. Satyan Musical School in Goris. When he came back to Gyumri he started working at N. Tigranyan Music School and at KOHAR Music School as a guitar teacher.
He graduated from the Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri as well as Vano Sarajishvili State Conservatory of Tbilisi, department of woodwinds in trumpet.
His professional experience includes working with
- Gyumri State Drama Theatre After Vardan Adjemian as a trumpet player.
- Georgian National Opera and Ballet Theater of Tbilisi as a trumpet player
- Music Institute of Kazakhstan, in Chikmend as a head of the woodwind department.
- Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri as a head of the woodwind department and later on as a director of the department.
- Woodwind department of Komitas Music School
- Komitas State Conservatory branch in Gyumri as a head of the woodwind department and later as a deputy director.
Currently, he is holding the title of a professor at Komitas State Conservatory of Gyumri. He has earned many awards and works at KOHAR Music School as a trumpet teacher.
He graduated from KOHAR music school in Cello.
He took part in many republican and international contest-festivals during his study and won many awards.
Then he entered and graduated from Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, the department of strings (Cello).
Currently, he is working at Gyumri State Symphony Orchestra, Gyumri State Orchestra of Folk Instruments, teaches at KOHAR Music School and also, he is a cello player at KOHAR Symphony Orchestra and Choir.
She graduated from the Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in piano, then she continued her education and graduated from Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan in Piano and Composition.
She worked as a singer in KOHAR Quartet Choir (Soprano) and at “Improrhythm” college in Gyumri.
She worked at Composers union of Armenia as a coordinator of musical part (She is a member of the Composers’ Union of Armenia).
Currently, she is working at Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan (interpretation of modern note, piano, accompaniment).
She teaches harmonica and solfeggio at KOHAR Music School.
Author of several works, that sounds in many cities in Armenia and abroad.
She has received many awards and diplomas.
She graduated from Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in piano. She worked as a piano teacher at Arts College in Gyumri. Currently, she works as a piano teacher at KOHAR Music School in Gyumri.
He graduated from the department of woodwind of Music Institute after Christopher Kara-Murza in Gyumri in oboe. He worked in the Art School after Jean and Albert Boghosyan and sons as well as at Music School N5 after Sheram in Gyumri as an oboe teacher.
Currently, he works in the State Symphonic Orchestra of Gyumri and KOHAR Symphony Orchestra and Choir as an oboe player as well as at KOHAR Music School of Gyumri as an oboe teacher.
He graduated from KOHAR Music School in Gyumri in Armenian National Instruments (Duduk).
Then he entered and graduated from Gyumri branch of Komitas State Conservatory in Duduk.
He took part in many republican and international contest-festivals and won awards.
Currently, he is working at Gyumri State Orchestra of Folk Instruments, at KOHAR Quartet Choir (tenor) and teaches at KOHAR Music School.
He graduated from the department of woodwind of Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri. He worked at Music School N5 after Sheram in Gyumri as a teacher of a flute. Currently, he works as a flute player in KOHAR Symphony Orchestra and Choir as well as a flute teacher at KOHAR Music School.
He graduated from Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri as well as from Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan in bassoon.
He worked in Radio and TV Variety-Symphonic Orchestra of Armenia, State Youth Orchestra, Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra as well as in Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri as a clarinet and bassoon teacher. Currently, he works at Music School N1 after Nikoghayos Tigranyan in Gyumri as a clarinet and bassoon teacher, in State Symphonic Orchestra in Gyumri and in KOHAR Symphony Orchestra and Choir as a bassoon player as well as at KOHAR Music School of Gyumri as a clarinet and bassoon teacher.
She graduated from the department of piano of Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri. She worked at Music School N5 after Sheram in Gyumri as a piano teacher and a concertmaster. Currently, she teaches piano at KOHAR Music School.

She graduated from the department of Armenian National Instruments of Music Institute after Christopher Kara-Murza in Gyumri in qanun.
She worked as a music teacher at elementary school N19 after Aghayan in Gyumri.
Currently, she works at Music School N5 after Sheram in Gyumri as well as at KOHAR Music School as a qanun teacher.
She has been awarded by the highest cultural award in Armenia – Movses Khorenatsi Medal, by the President of the Republic of Armenia. She has received many letters of acknowledgment including one by the Prime Minister of RA, and diplomas.
She graduated from Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, in piano. She is a Doctor of Musical Arts. She worked at Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in Gyumri as a teacher and concertmaster. She has played in many reputable music festivals and is a coordinator and a judge of many international music festivals. She is also an author of many articles and an editor of 17 collections.
Currently, she works as a lecturer and a concertmaster in the piano department of the branch of Komitas State Conservatory in Gyumri. She is an associate professor at Komitas State Conservatory in Gyumri. She also works at KOHAR Music School as a teacher of piano and a concertmaster.
She graduated from M. Balanchivadze Music School in harp and piano. He worked in a Music School in Maralik, as well as at the Art School after Jean and Albert Boghosyan and sons as a piano teacher and concertmaster. Currently, he works in KOHAR Music School as a harp teacher and in KOHAR Symphony Orchestra and Choir as a harp player.
She graduated from Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in conducting in Gyumri as well as Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan in conducting and vocal studies. She is a Doctor of Musical Arts. She worked in the National State Choir of Armenia. Currently, Nazan works in the branch of Komitas State Conservatory in Gyumri as a lecturer in the Department of Vocal Studies. She is also a singer in KOHAR quadruple Choir as well as a voice teacher at KOHAR Music School
She graduated from Gyumri branch of Komitas State Conservatory, the faculty of conducting,
She worked as conductor assistant and taught at Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan.
Her choirs have performed with concert programs many times in Armenia and abroad. They took part in many republican and international contest-festivals and won many prizes.
Currently, she conducts the choir of Hayordyats toun in Gyumri, she is a member of Kohar Quartet Choir (alto), also she is the conductor of Children’s choir at KOHAR Music School.
He graduated from the Music Institute after Ch. Kara-Murza in piano. Later on, he continued his education and graduated from Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan in piano.
His professional experience includes working with

- Music School after Anushavan Ter-Ghevondyan in Yerevan as a piano teacher and a concertmaster
- Music Institute after Christopher Kara-Murza in Gyumri as a professor and a concertmaster
- Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute after M. Nalbandyan as a lecturer in the Music department
- Armenian Apostolic Yotverq Church in Shirak, Gyumri as an organ player and a singer in the church choir
- Shishyan Music School in Akhuryan and Gyumri as a Director of Studies
- Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan as a lecturer and a concertmaster
He is an Associate Professor at Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan Gyumri Branch. Currently, he works at KOHAR Music School as a piano teacher, concertmaster as well as is the vice-president of KOHAR Complex. He has received many awards and letters of acknowledgment from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia as the best concertmaster.
All children between 7 and 10 are welcome to apply to study at KOHAR Music School.
In order to become a student at KOHAR Music School, parents need to present the following documents for application:
- Copy of the birth certificate of the applicant
- 2 colour photos of the applicant (3×4)
- A letter of application to the director of the school written by the parents of the applicant
After application submission, successful candidates are invited for an audition with the managing and teaching staff of the school. Before the final audition, students are given a chance to have a preliminary audition with the specialists and receive
constructive feedback on what to work on to have a successful audition on the final date.
Admission to KOHAR Music School is open from 20th to 25th of August.
The dates are fixed, although some changes may occur due to unforeseen circumstances.
